Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
At King Edward VII we work in partnership with Nottingham Trent University, who will be the accredited recommending body who will assess you in order that you can achieve Qualified Teacher Status.
Graduate Teacher Programme
- The GTP offers you a way to qualify as a teacher while you work
- It is a one year full-time programme of postgraduate training
- You will be employed as an unqualified teacher
- The programme suits people who want to change career but need to continue earning while they train
Training Plan
- You will be carrying out a variety of training activities in order to meet the QTS requirements
- The University partnership means that some of the training programme will be delivered at Nottingham Trent University and some of it in school
Examples of training activities
- Guidance on the way students learn
- Ways of preparing lessons
- Guidance on classroom observation
- Guidance on classroom management
- Special Educational needs
Agenda for the year
- After an initial induction and observation period you will then begin teaching groups at Key Stage 3 and 4
- Approximately two days a week in the autumn and one day in the spring term will be spent at Nottingham Trent University
- The course involves having the experience of two schools
- You will also need to pass the ‘on line’ literacy, numeracy and ICT skills tests

Your subject mentor
(As a Trainee at KE7 you will be assigned a mentor who will guide you through your training programme)
Nottingham Trent University will also provide you with a Learning Tutor who will monitor your progress throughout the year and be involved in your final assessment.
